Despite having an available stadium, the imposing size and uncertainty of the roof had probably factored into the decision to have a new stadium for the Montreal soccer team, the Club Football Montreal (previously Impact de Montreal).  Located next to the Olympic Stadium, the Saputo Stadium, built in 2008, sits on the grounds of the 1976 track and field site.
