Bruges – Minnewater

This peaceful park close to the center of the city is a pleasant place to stroll and recharge your batteries. This large place of greenery includes the Lac d’Amour “Lake of Love”. Its name comes from a legend. A young girl named Minna experienced inconsolable sadness when her father refused marriage to her chosen one, Morin. She ran away, hid and took refuge in the woods. Her lover found her in the woods of this park just in time for her last breath. Sad story. The castle, the bridge and the lake make this place romantic and filled with deep feelings.

Although much calmer now, the lake was actually wide enough for massive cargo barges to transfer their goods into the smaller crafts to ply towards Ghent. The turbulence on the water has far changed.
