Montreal – Aldred Building

501, Place d’Armes

A smaller version of the Empire State Building in Montreal!

This elegant Art Deco building, clad in the locally common limestone, stands proudly in the historic Place d’Armes district of Old Montreal. Its resemblance to New York’s Empire State Building is striking—and not by accident. Completed in 1931, the very same year as its famous counterpart, it was commissioned by a New York-based finance company.

You’ll find this architectural gem just steps from the Notre-Dame Basilica, nestled among other landmarks in one of Montreal’s most iconic neighborhoods.
