The Desert House offers a surprisingly immersive experience, showcasing plants, insects, and reptiles from some of the driest regions on the planet. The moment you step inside, the warm, arid air and rocky pathways instantly transport you into a desert landscape.
Right at the entrance, a small tank filled with “doctor fish” invites you to dip your hands in for a quick, quirky fish‑spa moment. It’s an unexpected and fun way to start the visit.
Inside, you’ll find an intriguing mix of desert vegetation—towering cacti, unusual succulents, and hardy shrubs—alongside desert‑adapted creatures that add life and movement to the space. The atmosphere is calm, and since it wasn’t crowded during our visit, we were able to explore at our own pace and appreciate the details.
The Desert House is included in the Vienna Pass, making it an easy and worthwhile stop if you’re already exploring the Schönbrunn grounds.
