2 Rue des Prêcheurs
Saint-Cannat Church, also known as Saint-Cannat-les-Prêcheurs, is a Baroque-style religious building located in Marseille’s 1st arrondissement, just steps from the Old Port. Built between the 16th and 18th centuries by the Dominicans, it is dedicated to Saint Cannat, bishop of Aix-en-Provence.
Its sober façade, completed in the 18th century, opens onto a building whose interior is renowned for its decorative richness. I was not able to see it for myself, as access was restricted during my visit, but this interior is often described as a fine example of sacred art in Marseille.
The bell tower, built in the 17th century, remains discreet amid the lively neighborhood. Classified as a historic monument since 1963, this church draws the attention of those who enjoy discovering places of worship steeped in history.
