Tokyo – Denboin Temple & Garden

Asakusa

The garden of the Denboin temple created between 1624 and 1644 is open to the public for just a few days annually to enjoy the cherry trees which bloom from mid-March to early May, depending on the year. Since it is a private garden, of the abbot of the Senso-ji shrine, we can understand that this activity is demanding in terms of organization.

The garden includes 6 main structures, some of which are classified as important cultural properties and some of which date back to 1776.

Offering the public the chance to explore the 12,000 m² in the spring is a privilege revisited annually. There was a time when only royalty, special guests and nobles could access the site.

Entrance fees apply.

We were near the site in the summer of 2024 so did not have the chance to explore the garden.
