Shibuya
First we see the big blue globes that mark the passage, then we cross without really noticing and we end up taking a few steps back to see that obviously, this bridge is decorated with badges illustrating sporting events. We end up understanding that the plaques we see refer to the 1964 Olympic Games events.
The concrete footbridge that spans above the Yamanote train line was built to connect the Olympic Athletes’ Village, now the Yoyogi Park, to various competition venues for the 18th Olympiad held in October 1964.
More than 5,000 athletes from 93 countries participated in the event, with judo and volleyball making their Olympic debuts.
More recently, in 2020, during the COVID-19 crisis, Tokyo once again hosted the games.
The passage has, in a certain way, become a tribute to Olympic sports.
This bridge is close to Meiji-Jingu shrine, Yoyogi Park and Ota Memorial Art Museum.
