Tokyo Government Metropolitan Buildings

Shinjuku

Built in 1991, this complex includes 3 separate buildings that are dedicated to the activities of the government of the great city of Tokyo. Located in the Shinjuku district, the city hall is surrounded by modern office towers. Building No.1 is the one with the twin towers that peak at 243 meters in height. On the 45th floor of each of its towers, an observatory allows you to see the city from another point of view, at an altitude of 202 meters. Although less popular than the Tokyo Tower or the Tokyo Skytree, this one has the advantage of being free to enter.

On a perfect day, the visibility is such that you can see Mount Fuji in the distance. The observation towers are open alternately and on the same level, a café and a souvenir kiosk allow you to take your time to go around.

At the reception level there is a tourist information office and a temporary exhibition section. During our visit, the announcement of the 2025 “deafolympic” games with souvenir items from the 2020 Olympic Games was on display.

You can easily combine your visit to this observatory with the nearby Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
