New York City – Broadway

In New York, we refer to Broadway for two separate reasons, the theaters and the street.

New York is world-renowned for theatrical productions and musicals and as strange as it may sound it is referred to as Broadway, yet now only 3 of the 41 venues are actually on Broadway Street: Broadway Theatre, the Palace Theater and the Winter Garden Theatre. The many other performance halls are mostly located on the side streets of Forth Avenue near Times Square, where the nightlife lasts well beyond sunset.

Tickets are not given away. It is possible to buy tickets at a discount by going to the special counter under the stairs in Times Square to obtain access for the same day. The line can be long.

The theaters are “classified” according to their number of seats. Off-Broadway refers to theaters with 100 to 499 seats and off-off-Broadway to theaters with less than 100 seats.

Whether you are interested in small or large musicals and plays, historical subjects or original creations, you are sure to find an option.

As for Broadway Street, it crosses Manhattan for 13 mi (21 km) from Bowling Green.
