New York City – J.P. Morgan & Co Building

23 Wall Street

This building is at the center of the action of the financial district, between Federal Hall and the New York Stock Exchange, at the intersection of Wall and Broad Streets. This corner elevation is elegant, sober and rich. Mr. Morgan, an influential and successful personage in the financial segment, for a time, considered joining the National City Bank Building at 55 Wall Street but ultimately opted for his establishment. Built in 1914, the four floors housed the head office of the J.P. Morgan & C bank until 1988. They then moved to number 60 on the same street. You may find scars from the Wall Street bombing of 1920. It is unclear if the attack targeted the banking institution specifically as the majority of victims were employees of this bank. Unfortunately, no convictions were made.

The building has been empty since 2000 or rented sporadically for film use. Despite several proposals, nothing came to fruition. The front steps are used by tourists to sit, gather or for public claims.

J.P Morgan’s home was in Murray Hill on the island of Manhattan and is now the Morgan Library.
