New York City – Bowling Green

between 25 and 26 Broadway

Bowling Green Park does not have the same look as it did in the past, but it is the oldest park in the city surrounded by the first fence installed in 1771. It had been a gathering place before it became officially a park, which was created in 1733, its name referring to a bowling game similar to bowling found on the premises.

Historically, it is here that Peter Minuit is said to have bought the island of Manhattan from the Indians. On the site there has long been a fountain. The one in front of you was renovated in 1977. The original dates back to 1842 and was the first to offer unpolluted water to city dwellers. The statue of King George III disappeared during the revolution. It is stated that the statue was melted down to make bullets to fight against the British.

In this area you will find the bull of Wall Street, Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House with its museum and Battery Park.
