Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré
It’s no surprise that thousands of pilgrims visit the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré each year—this sacred site is truly breathtaking, both as a place of worship and as a work of art. A visit here is a must, even if you’re not religious, simply for the artistic and architectural beauty it offers.
The basilica feels like a museum in itself, showcasing a wide range of artistic styles and mediums: architecture, sculpture, mosaics, copperwork, paintings, and decorative art.
From the moment you arrive, you’re struck by its elegance. The copper doors at the main entrance are impressive, and once inside, the mosaic-covered vestibule sets the tone for what’s to come.
The interior is absolutely stunning—with a painted ceiling that’s anything but ordinary, vibrant stained-glass windows, and ornate columns and altars that radiate timeless beauty. I’ve visited many churches in my life (much to my kids’ dismay), but even they were captivated this time. It was one of those rare moments when we were all equally moved by a place.
Before you leave, be sure to visit the chapels on the lower level—they are just as beautiful and serene, offering a more intimate space for reflection.
Roughly a 30 to 40-minute drive northeast of Quebec City.
